I accepted the clinical
position at the Paffenbarger Research Center in July of
1996, after retiring from the U.S. Public Health Service
at the rank Captain (O-6). During my active duty career, I
served with the US Coast Guard for 15 years and at the
National Institutes of Health for 7 years. While at NIH I
was Chief Dental Officer of the Commissioned Officers
Dental Clinic.
The majority of my research
and my main interests are in the area of adhesion,
especially dentin bonding. More specifically, I am
interested in etching/conditioning agents including
self-etching primers. I also have great interest in
reinforced resin composites.
As a collateral duty I am presently the secretary for the
Dental Implants Subcommittee (SC 8) for the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee
106 (Dentistry).
I have authored four articles in the scientific literature
and submitted 48 abstracts for scientific meetings.
I am a member of the American Dental Association,
International and American Association for Dental
Research, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, and two
operating dental study clubs (Naval Postgraduate Dental
School – Seminars of Restorative Dentistry and George M.
Hollenback Study Club).
